Discussion Forum > Treacle Theory

Today I read an incredible Blog article which I think you'd enjoy. It deals with procrastination and how 'little and often' is very effective. It's highly readable (entertaining even) and makes me wonder how Rands learned Mark Forster's ways of thinking.

Nominally it's about a programmer's job but don't let that stop you. Really it's good for any job or project.

Where I found this: My home AF4 list has the task Read Stuff. Now Stuff is a box of interesting but non-urgent papers I've collected which seemed interesting at the time but I didn't want to stop and read at the time. This article I saved 4 years ago, but only filed under Stuff last year when I found AutoFocus. Today AF finally got me to reading it. Should a done so years ago :-)

Here it is: "Trickle theory" http://randsinrepose.com/archives/2006/09/25/trickle_theory.html

My favourite bit:

I know there is no controlling the world, but I will fluidly surf the entropy by constantly changing myself.

as opposed to my usual

I believe I can control my world and through an aggressive campaign of task management, personal goals, and a CAN DO attitude, I will succeed in doing the impossible. Go me!

I think Trickle Theory wants us to Start and Iterate often.
So we should Trickle water not viscous treacle.
Yep, a good article. ;-)
