Autofocus Time Management System
The Autofocus Time Management System is still under active development and currently comes in three separate versions. You should choose the version which best matches your circumstances.
Autofocus 1 This is the original Autofocus system which proved highly popular with people - many of whom had never been able to get a time management system to work before. Its one disadvantage is that urgently pressing tasks have to be dealt with outside the system itself.
Autofocus 2 This is an alternative version which handles urgent items in a very powerful way. This is however at the cost of being slightly less effective with non-urgent and more weighty tasks.
Revised Autofocus This version attempts to combine the best parts of AF1 and AF2. It’s main weakness is that this is done at the cost of some of the effectiveness of each system.
A fourth version is currently in the first stages of testing. It promises to have all the advantages and none of the drawbacks of the previous versions. Note: This version is now available.
All the versions are similar in that they consist of one long unprioritised list of everything that you have to do. The differences in the versions relate to the way in which you work the list.
Should you wish to change from one version to another at any time, you can do so with minimum disruption and without having to re-write your list.
Which version should I choose?
The best version for you will depend on the nature of your work. I am using “work” in the widest sense here to include anything you have to do, regardless of whether it is related to paid employment.
If your work consists predominantly of urgent tasks with a quick reaction time and a lot of externally imposed deadlines, then Autofocus 2 is probably best for you.
If your work is slower and more considered, with most deadlines self-imposed, then go for Autofocus 1
If your work is a mixture of the two then Revised Autofocus will probably suit you best.
Hopefully the new version will be better than the previous versions at everything so the need to choose will no longer exist!
